Nevada PEP Partners with the National Institute of Mental Health

Nevada PEP has been selected as the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Outreach Partner for 2012 through 2014 for the state of Nevada.  PEP joins a nationwide network of 55 mental health organizations that disseminate research from NIMH about the causes, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders, and promote public involvement in research studies.

Through its Outreach Partnership Program, NIMH since 1990 has supported organizations from every state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico to educate the public about mental disorders, and help to reduce the stigma of mental illness. “As an organization specifically developed to educate and support consumers and family members, Nevada PEP is pleased to collaborate with NIMH in these efforts,” stated Karen Taycher, Executive Director.

Established in 1992, PEP is a statewide, family directed, grass roots non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, operating two offices and employing 35 full/part time staff who are family members of individuals with mental illnesses or other disabilities.  PEP’s mission is to increase the opportunities for home, community and school success for children with disabilities, including those who are at risk for or who have serious emotional disturbances, their families and their service providers, through education, encouragement and empowerment activities. Using a multifaceted approach, PEP will partner with NIMH to educate thousands of Nevada consumers and family members through social networking and newsletter articles, reach school and primary care personnel through targeted outreach programs, and inform the general public through community events and the media.

The National Institute of Mental Health is one of 28 components of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Federal government's principal biomedical and behavioral research agency. NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

One Day of Online Giving Will Benefit Nevada PEP

LAS VEGASNevada’s Big Give is almost here! The excitement begins in just a few days at midnight on November 17. Nevada PEP has one question… Do you have PEP? On November 17th you can get PEP by participating in Nevada’s Big Give and donating to Nevada PEP. This annual initiative, launched by NevadaGIVES, is a unique, high-visibility promotion of personal giving designed to bring new donors and dollars to Nevada PEP a non-profit organization working with families who have children with disabilities. We offer Parents Education, Empowerment and Encouragement, tools proven to give PEP!

“We are extremely excited to be involved in this “One Day of Online Giving” said Stephanie Vrsnik, Community Development Director at Nevada PEP. “Online giving is truly the wave of the future, and it’s an extremely easy way for people in our community who want to give back.” It’s as simple as: Point. Click. Give.

In this struggling economy “Whether you can afford to give $10 or $100, the beauty of this initiative is that when we all participate, even a small donation can have a big impact. Let’s make history together.” Vrsnik said.
